Applications for Firearms Instructors are now open for FTU North, FTU Scotland, St Fergus, Garlogie, Harwell and the RMT Team, with a closing date of Sunday 4th May. We are pleased to announce that officers currently within your probation periods will be eligible to apply, as long as you have previous, relevant experience.
In addition, applicants interested in the RMT roles can now be based from your local site when RMT delivery is not scheduled, and do not need to be based from a FTU as was previously the case.
The Firearms Instructor role involves the delivery of approved firearms training in a dynamic working environment in world class training facilities. This includes providing tactical training, conducting qualification shoots and any other firearms training as directed by the Chief Firearms Instructor.
You will have access to overtime as an NFI, and the additional option of working regularly at OPU's as an AFO to support continued development of your core skills.

What are the criteria to apply?
- You must be a current and competent AFO to a consistently high standard (Defined as: Not failed a qualifying shoot in the past two years with either the SLP or G36c, whilst maintaining an average pass score of greater than 80% and not subject of a current AFO developmental plan).
- You can have no failures of a Tactical summative assessment in the last 2 years of firearms training.
- You must not have been on any stage of the Unsatisfactory Performance Procedure (UPP) within the last 12 months.
- You will need to be free to attend the 1-week Candidate Preparation Course (CPC)
- You will need to be free to attend the 8-week National Firearms Instructor Course (NFIC)
What is the application process?
If successful at screening, you will be invited to attend a 1 week Candidate Preparation Course (CPC). This will include training you on skills you will need to undertake the 8 week National Firearms Instructor Course (NFIC), as well as an interview and assessment for the role.
You will need to be available for both courses to be able to apply for this round of recruitment. Course details will be published on any internal vacancy notices.
If you are successful through the National Firearms Instructor recruitment process and NFIC and confirmed as permanent, and by taking up the permanent NFI post at Griffin Park your current home no longer meets the domiciliary requirements then you would be considered for a Public Interest Transfer against the set criteria.
