We aim to make CNC a rewarding place to work for everyone. As far as salary is concerned, our Police Officers receive a regular standard increase, while our Police Staff are rewarded for their responsibilities, merit and achievement. We also offer a range of non-financial rewards. To ensure a fair approach we make sure our reward and recognition initiatives are completely transparent and honest.

Payroll giving scheme

You can authorise deductions from your salary (up to a maximum of £1,200 a year) which will be forwarded, via an agent, to up to eight nominated registered charities. These deductions will attract tax relief.

Pensions

All CNC employees currently contribute 5% of their salary into the Combined Pension Scheme.

Allowances

All employees are eligible for allowances.

Police Staff may receive allowances where eligible for :

Police Officers may receive allowances where eligible for:

  • Temporary Duties
  • Special Priority Payment (where applicable)

  • Home Boarding of Dogs/Dog Handling

Parental leave

We offer all our officers and staff enhanced maternity, paternity and adoption leave where eligible.

Professional subscriptions

If your subscription is directly related to your role, we’ll meet the cost of one membership per employee.

Working hours

Standard working hours for Police Officers are normally on a four days on - four days off 12-hour shift patterns. Standard working hours for Police Staff are normally 37 hours per week, 5 days per week for non shift workers.

We are keen to develop a culture that promotes a healthy work-life balance. So we also have a flexi-time and flexible working scheme which offer opportunities for part-time working and job-sharing.

Holidays

Everyone is eligible for eight public holidays, normally be taken on:

  • New Year’s Day
  • Good Friday
  • Easter Monday
  • May Bank Holiday
  • Spring Bank Holiday
  • August Bank Holiday
  • Christmas Day
  • Boxing Day

If you have a shift that falls on one of these holidays, you will be expected to work that day and take another day as holiday instead. If these holidays are not related to your faith, you can also arrange with your line manager to take them on occasions that are more appropriate for you to celebrate on.

Display screen equipment

If your role means you are a regular PC/VDU user (i.e. more than one hour per day) we will cover the cost of your eye tests. If necessary we will then also meet the cost of glasses and for eye protection purposes on safety grounds.
