Job title: Assistant Chief Constable
Working location: Culham
As Assistant Chief Constable, I am part of the team that leads the Constabulary’s Operations and Strategic Direction.
I joined the police in 1975 as a Police Cadet and worked in Merseyside Police, mainly as a Detective and a Senior Investigating Officer until 2004 where I had attained the rank of Superintendent. In 2004 I went to Greater Manchester Police as Divisional Commander and I joined the CNC in 2008. What attracted me was that it was a new environment which I knew would enhance my abilities as a Police Officer and a leader.
The CNC is a very stretching environment and is extremely different from a Home Office force. The role has taken me into more of a strategic position allowing me to interact with members of the energy community both at a local and national level. It has also allowed me to work with central government. I think the most enjoyable and stimulating issue for me is working with Police Officers and Staff and also dealing with the political tensions and pressures within the industry which affect policing.
The CNC is a very forward thinking organisation and one that is critical to the nuclear section of the Critical National Infrastructure. I know that members of the nuclear industry consider us to be critical to its security.
