Police Officers

We aim to be world class in the protection of nuclear materials and facilities. This means we need officers at all levels who are highly trained in a range of critical specialist areas and activities.

The Constabulary defends sites across the UK and provides safe passage for nuclear materials in international waters. So, everyone we recruit at Constable level receives highly specialised training in the use of firearms and firearms tactics, as well as a range of less lethal options, such as the Taser.

During your two-year probation, you will play a critical role in armed protection at nuclear sites. You will also be able to assess the range of available specialist roles that you may want to consider when you have completed your probation. These vary from location to location and include full-time dog handlers, firearms instructors and special branch detectives, as well as road and marine escort and dynamic entry officers, whose specialist skills are called on throughout their careers.

To keep on top of our game we need officers who continuously reinforce their skills through regular firearms re-shoots, tactical training and counter-terrorism exercises. As an Investors in People employer with a strong performance culture we aim to get the best from our people by encouraging them to continuously develop. We will support your career progression through access to specialist roles and promotion through the ranks. We also have our own syllabus for promotion in an exam framework that is underpinned by national policing standards.
